Happy Together

Hugh Behm-Steinberg

In the movie they are miserable together in Buenos Aires. They are miserable when the car breaks down. They are miserable when they are poor. They are poor all the time, which makes them more miserable. So one of them gets a job. They are still miserable. They break up, feel even worse. They get drunk, smoke cartons of cigarettes: they're still miserable. They sleep in separate beds, they even sleep with other people, they are still miserable. The nights even more miserable than the days, the days are pretty damn awful. One of them gets beat up. The other is unhappy, he cries into a tape recorder. The sound of which falls over the world like a waterfall.
